G.A. Pfeiffer chess collection 1837-1933

Gustavus Adolphus Pfeiffer (1872-1953) was an American businessman and philanthropist who collected chessmen and chess related materials. He was active in the Marshall Chess Club in New York City. Collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, facsimiles of autographs, and printed matter related to chess. Correspondence includes letters, 1837-1922, by notable chess players and world champions; and picture postcards, 1910-1933. Also, facsimiles of autographs of chess masters, manuscripts concerning chess tournaments, and five volumes of chess problems and their solutions (some in manuscript form).
